Come and join us for an amazing day and help support the Watlington Hospital Charitable Trust. 9.30 - 3.30 cost £5
Watlington and District Nursing Home would not exist were it not for WHCT. When the Community Hospital closed in 2000, WHCT was formed and after enormous efforts by the Trustees and the generosity of the local people, nearly £2million was raised to purchase the site. WHCT appointed Sanctuary Care to take responsibility for building and running a nursing home which opened in 2004.
A wide range of care is provided for residents, the majority of whom are publicly funded. There are 60 en-suite rooms and there is always a waiting list. The Trustees have responsibilities which stem from the appointment of Sanctuary. Their main task is to keep a watch on the quality of service given by the Nursing Home, through meetings and visits. Most importantly, an annual grant is provided to ensure special consideration is given to the needs of local clients. In addition, the Charity supports the garden and the whole of the campus on which the Nursing Home and Surgery sit, provides 25% of the running costs and gives extra from time to time. It also ensures such facilities as a TV in each room. A new Sun Lounge is being built this year and the Trustees will assist with the furniture and the reorganisation of the Garden area.
The annual Benson Christmas Fair is their only fund raising event. It meets nearly one third of the WHCT needs. The balance comes from the return on capital which was raised at the start of the project in 2001.
